President Signs Major Disaster Declaration

Washington, D.C. – President Obama signed into effect a Major Disaster Declaration for Bristol, Newport and Washington Counties in Rhode Island.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced the availability of funds “to state, tribal, and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the Hurricane Sandy in the counties of Bristol, Newport, and Washington” in press release earlier today.

Federal funding is also being made available for hazard mitigation measures for all counties and tribes within the state. Hazard mitigation funding will be made available on a cost-sharing basis.
