Updated: Nation’s Firefighters Honor Boston’s Fallen

Boston, MA – The Nation joins the City of Boston this week in mourning the loss of two fallen firefighters.

Lt. Edward Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy were lost in line of duty deaths on March 26 while fighting a residential building fire in Boston’s Back Bay.

Before dawn on Wednesday, Rhode Island firefighters gathered in several locations throughout the state, boarding buses  at the ready for transport to the services of their fallen brothers. Joining an estimated 10,000 firefighters from around the nation, the Rhode Island contingent planned to attend services throughout the week.

Thousands of firefighters participated in a walk-by ceremony during Lt. Edward Walsh’s wake on Tuesday. Lt. Walsh will be laid to rest on Wednesday morning with funeral services to be held in his hometown of Watertown.

FF Kennedy’s wake was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, with his funeral services to take place on Thursday morning in West Roxbury.

A memorial fund, the Walsh Kennedy Memorial Fund, was established through the Boston Firefighters Credit Union. Donations can be made at https://www.bosfirecu.com/.
