Narragansett- The annual Rhode Island Lifeguard tournament finished up night 4 of competition last night on Roger Wheeler State Beach in Narragansett. Throngs of people from the swim and lifeguarding communities joined friends and family for an exciting night of competition.
Heading into the evening, Narragansett Surf Rescue maintained a 30 pt. lead (121 pts.) over Westerly Surf Rescue (88 pts.) in second place. Scarborough State Beach was nipping at Westerly’s heals in third (86 pts.) with Second Beach, Newport trying to take their spot on the leaderboard (77).
The evening saw fierce competition by both women and men in Medley relay racing that included kayak, paddle, swim and boat contention.
Standings heading into Friday’s competition were as follows:
Narragansett – 121 points
Westerly – 88 points
Scarborough – 86 points
Second Beach – 77 points
Misqaumicut – 45 points
East matunuck – 41 points
Wheeler – 38 points
Also competing was the Old-Timers Team who do not participate in team scoring.
Saturday evenings events kick off at 6:45 pm at East Matunuck State Beach.
