North Providence – Rhode Island State Representative Doreen Costa (R-Dist. 31) has a new mission and daytime home. The incumbent representative from North Kingstown/Exeter purchased the Charles Street Coffee Co. at 813 Charles Street in North Providence.
“My husband, Jim, had been looking for a small business opportunity for a few years, so when he saw the listing come up, he sent me to check it out,” said Costa, in between customers on Tuesday.
Costa, who is known to carry a cup of Joe and down a few lattes liked the feel of the Charles Street digs and jumped in with she and her husband purchasing the business in July.
Serving up homemade delicacies, fresh baked goods (including melt in your mouth croissants), paninis and more coffee/latte choices than you can imagine Costa holds court in her new coffee house Monday – Saturday.
When Costa isn’t at the coffee house, she spends most of her time in district where she is on her re-election door-knocking tour.
On Wednesday evening, Costa plans to be at a free concert with Tim Charron, country music artist and hometown boy. Costa and GOP candidate Sharon Gamba worked together to bring Charron to town for the free event.
“It was our way of giving back to the community,” said Costa. “Tim is from North Kingstown. We thought it would be great to support the arts and one of our own.”
Costa and Gamba worked out the details with Charron’s publicist, securing the free event and a firm date, then turning the show over to the North Kingstown Arts Council to host the event.
Charron’s concert is scheduled for 7:00 pm, at the North Kingstown Town Beach Bandshell.
