Providence – Gina Raimondo will be sworn as the first female governor of the State of Rhode Island in a ceremony to be held on the South Portico of the Statehouse at noon.

The inaugural ceremonies are slated to begin with a mass at St. Raymond’s Church on North Main Street, followed by a traditional “pomp and circumstance” swearing in, and topped off with a citywide Waterfire celebration hosted by the newly elected Governor.

Raimondo takes the reigns of a state still struggling to recover from economic woes and an unemployment rate hovering above 7 percent, among the worst in the country.

Moving from the seat as State Treasurer to the helm as Governor, Raimondo brings with her an economic plan based on rebuilding the state’s workforce, establishing an innovation institute, and investments in tourism, infrastructure and education.
