Wind Chill Advisory in Effect for Wednesday Evening
Boston – The National Weather Service has extended its January 7 Wind Chill Advisory through 11 a.m. Thursday morning. See details below:
The National Weather Service Boston/Taunton office issued a wind chill advisory for early Wednesday evening through Thursday morning. The advisory issued on Tuesday, remains in effect from 5 p.m. January 7 to 11 a.m. January 8.
According to NWS,
"A WIND CHILL ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN THE WIND CHILL INDEX IS LIKELY TO REACH -15 TO -24 DEGREES FOR AT LEAST 3 HOURS."
Dangerously cold wind chill values are expected in all regions of Massachusetts (except Northern, Western portions and the Islands) and all of Rhode Island except Block Island. Northern Connecticut is also included.
Wind chill readings are predicted at near 24 below zero (-24).
Negative impacts include hypothermia and frostbite due to exposure. NWS warns that adverse circumstances due to exposure can occur in as little as 30 minutes. It is recommended that residents who have to go outside dress in layers and don hats and gloves.
