Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker joined students from John F. Kennedy Elementary School on Wednesday to stock trout in Jamaica Pond for the upcoming fishing season. Baker pumped up the children gathered to help stock more than 1,000 trout in the pond located in the city’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood. Giving his enthusiastic helpers tips on proper trout stocking, Baker donned waders and headed into the pond with a bucket of fish.
“Remember, not a big throw. You need to gradually let them into the water,” the Governor instructed. “Don’t throw them.”
Nearly a dozen fishing related events are planned under the agency’s “Fish with MassWildlife this Spring” program. The events, running on dates from May 7 through May 21 can be found in the MassWildlife Monthly Newsletter.
