Auburn mourns loss of fallen police officer Ronald Tarentino, Jr.

The Auburn, Massachusetts community and law enforcement across the state on Sunday mourned the line of duty death of Auburn police officer Ronald Tarentino, Jr. The fallen officer was fatally shot while conducting a routine traffic stop at approximately 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Tarentino, who had been with the Auburn Police Department for two years was conducting a traffic stop on Rochdale Street when an occupant of the vehicle opened fire on him as he approached the car.According to reports, the officer was struck multiple times.

 Officer Tarentino was transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester where he was pronounced deceased,” Chief Andrew Suckis, Jr. said in a press conference on Sunday morning. “Immediately after the shooting, the Auburn Police, Massachusetts State Police, Worcester Police and the FBI and the office of the Worcester District Attorney, Joseph Hurley launched an intensive investigation into this homicide.”

The suspect in the shooting, Jorge Zambrano was known to law enforcement.
